The IPL Super Contest tip philosophy

Fantasy tips are not predictions. A prediction says "Player X will score 50." A tip says "Player X is a strong captain candidate at venue Y against bowling type Z." The first is a guess; the second is a framework. The IPL Super Contest desk publishes only the second type.

The five-step framework — points system → form → venue → matchup → captain — is the same on every IPL match. What changes week to week is the data plugged into each step. The desk updates the data inputs every 24 hours during the season.

Step 01

A wicket in T20 is worth 25 base points plus an 8-point LBW/Bowled bonus — that single number changes how you value strike bowlers versus containment bowlers.

Before any tip, read the rulebook. The points table is the single most under-read document in fantasy cricket. A bowler who takes 2-30 in four overs scores 25×2 plus 8×2 LBW plus 4×12 dots plus 4 runs conceded = 96 points. A bowler who takes 1-25 in four overs with one maiden scores 25 plus 8 plus 4×6 dots minus 1×25 runs conceded plus 4 runs conceded = 42 points. The same credit, the same role, vastly different outcomes — and the points table is the only way to read the gap.

Step 02

Fantasy Tips — reading form the right way

Form is not the last match, it is the last 5 matches weighted by opposition quality. A fifty against a top-3 attack is worth more than a fifty against the league's weakest side. Our form index weights by opposition rank.

Form is the second step. The IPL Super Contest desk maintains a per-player form index that weights the last five innings against opposition rank, venue and batting position. The index is updated within 24 hours of every match and is open for inspection on the top 20 players blog post.

A useful habit: every Monday during the IPL season, scan the form index for the top 10 movers. Players entering the top 20 from outside the top 40 are the breakout candidates for the week. Players exiting the top 20 are due for a drop. The weekly scan takes five minutes and is the cheapest edge in the desk's playbook.

Wankhede, Eden Gardens and M. Chinnaswamy are different stadiums. The average T20 score at each is different, the boundary length is different and the spin-vs-pace ratio is different. Your team should reflect the venue, not ignore it.

Venue awareness is the third step. Wankhede rewards batters and seamers. Chepauk rewards spinners. Eden Gardens rewards finishers. Chinnaswamy rewards power-hitters. Each of the ten IPL grounds has a profile, and the profile is stable across seasons. Build a venue bias into your XI before you start picking players.

A useful rule: on flat decks (Wankhede, Chinnaswamy, Dharamsala), pick two top-order batters and a pace allrounder. On slow decks (Chepauk, Lucknow, Delhi), pick a frontline spinner and a middle-order batter. The rule is not absolute but it captures 70 percent of the matchup logic in five seconds.
