Fantasy Tips — the IPL Super Contest guide.
Form, role splits & captaincy math, explained with examples.
Fantasy tips — the framework
Tips fall into three buckets: pre-tournament (auction value, role splits, overseas slots), pre-match (pitch, toss, weather) and in-match (live captain swap, hedge stacks, drop-outs). The framework below prioritises pre-tournament work because that is where the largest edge lives.
The IPL Super Contest tip philosophy
Fantasy tips are not predictions. A prediction says "Player X will score 50." A tip says "Player X is a strong captain candidate at venue Y against bowling type Z." The first is a guess; the second is a framework. The IPL Super Contest desk publishes only the second type.
The five-step framework — points system → form → venue → matchup → captain — is the same on every IPL match. What changes week to week is the data plugged into each step. The desk updates the data inputs every 24 hours during the season.
Three rules we will not break
- We do not tip injured players. If a player is doubtful, the tip is "wait for the toss" — not a name.
- We do not promise scores. Every projection is a probability distribution, not a forecast.
- We do not publish tips that we ourselves would not enter. The desk runs its own lineups in practice contests; the published tips are the same.

Fantasy Tips — at a glance.
Fantasy Tips — the first thing to understand
Start with the rulebook, not the picks. The first thing every fantasy player should understand is the points system for the format they are about to play. A wicket in T20 is worth 25 base points plus an 8-point LBW/Bowled bonus — that single number changes how you value strike bowlers versus containment bowlers.

Before any tip, read the rulebook. The points table is the single most under-read document in fantasy cricket. A bowler who takes 2-30 in four overs scores 25×2 plus 8×2 LBW plus 4×12 dots plus 4 runs conceded = 96 points. A bowler who takes 1-25 in four overs with one maiden scores 25 plus 8 plus 4×6 dots minus 1×25 runs conceded plus 4 runs conceded = 42 points. The same credit, the same role, vastly different outcomes — and the points table is the only way to read the gap.
The IPL Super Contest points system is replicated in full on the points system page. Cross-check any disputed number against that page before the contest locks.

Fantasy Tips — reading form the right way
Form is not the last match, it is the last 5 matches weighted by opposition quality. A fifty against a top-3 attack is worth more than a fifty against the league's weakest side. Our form index weights by opposition rank.

Form is the second step. The IPL Super Contest desk maintains a per-player form index that weights the last five innings against opposition rank, venue and batting position. The index is updated within 24 hours of every match and is open for inspection on the top 20 players blog post.
A useful habit: every Monday during the IPL season, scan the form index for the top 10 movers. Players entering the top 20 from outside the top 40 are the breakout candidates for the week. Players exiting the top 20 are due for a drop. The weekly scan takes five minutes and is the cheapest edge in the desk's playbook.

Fantasy Tips — venue and pitch awareness
Wankhede, Eden Gardens and M. Chinnaswamy are different stadiums. The average T20 score at each is different, the boundary length is different and the spin-vs-pace ratio is different. Your team should reflect the venue, not ignore it.

Venue awareness is the third step. Wankhede rewards batters and seamers. Chepauk rewards spinners. Eden Gardens rewards finishers. Chinnaswamy rewards power-hitters. Each of the ten IPL grounds has a profile, and the profile is stable across seasons. Build a venue bias into your XI before you start picking players.
A useful rule: on flat decks (Wankhede, Chinnaswamy, Dharamsala), pick two top-order batters and a pace allrounder. On slow decks (Chepauk, Lucknow, Delhi), pick a frontline spinner and a middle-order batter. The rule is not absolute but it captures 70 percent of the matchup logic in five seconds.

Fantasy Tips — captaincy as a multiplier
Captaincy is the single largest swing in your weekly score. A captain who scores 80 fantasy points with a 2× multiplier delivers 160 — the same player's un-captained score delivers 80. Visit the captain & vice-captain guide for the full framework.

Captaincy is the fourth step. Pick the captain before you finish the rest of the XI. The 2× multiplier dominates the score; the rest of the XI fills around the captain's likely role. The IPL Super Contest captain & vice-captain page on the C/VC page publishes the weekly top candidates with their projected points.
A useful test: imagine your captain fails — gets out for 5 or goes wicketless. Does your team still finish in the top 30 percent of the contest? If yes, the captain pick is well-balanced. If no, you have over-concentrated. The risk-adjusted score is what wins mega contests over a 74-match season.

Fantasy Tips — what the model gets wrong
Every model gets something wrong. Ours under-weights the impact of a player returning from injury in their first two matches back, and over-weights the most-recent match. The methodology page lists every known bias.

Every IPL season contains 10-15 moments where the form index gets a player wrong — an out-of-form batter produces a 30-ball 80, a wicketless bowler takes 4-18. The index is right 80 percent of the time. The other 20 percent is where the leaderboard is won. The IPL Super Contest desk tracks its own hit rate and publishes the audit log on the methodology page.
The audit log is updated fortnightly. The desk aims for a 55 percent captain hit rate (captain finishes as the top scorer of your XI) — the benchmark is the field average of around 40 percent. The 15-point edge is the published value of the captain framework.

Fantasy Tips — putting it together
Apply the framework in this order: points system → form index → venue → captaincy → hedge. Skip any step and the model output degrades. The how to play page walks through the same checklist on a single match.

Putting the framework together takes five minutes per contest if you are disciplined. Read points (1 minute), check form (1 minute), check venue (30 seconds), pick captain (30 seconds), build the rest of the XI (1 minute), final review (1 minute). The five-minute discipline beats the half-hour debate because the field is also using a five-minute discipline — what wins is the specific data you plug in.
Track your own score. After every contest, log the projected score and the actual score. After ten contests you will know your own selection discipline and your own bias profile. The IPL Super Contest desk runs this audit internally; the methodology page lists the tools.
